Discussion: Do You Re-read?

I love re-reading my favorite books. I'm one of those who really gets good use out of them. I don't buy books to only read them once. I love getting lost in the story over and over. I'm just that kind of girl.

Yes, I know there are so many new books and un-read books out there for me to find. I'm working on those too. But I love re-living the magic of the book again. If it brought me pleasure once, then it will bring it to me again. It is a guarantee. So why not pick it up again?

While I've been on this little break, I thought this would be a GREAT time for me to re-read some of my favorite books. Here is what I've been reading:

Wings by Aprilynne Pike
Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella
The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen (after watching the film again and realizing how much of a thing I have for Colin Firth I needed to pick up the book again. Can you blame me?)

So, do you re-read?? Or are you a buy and put it on the shelf kind of person? What is your preference and why?

  1. Sometimes...after years and years have passed and I need a refresher.

    I LOVE Wings :)

    OMG
Your new layout is ADORABLE! I LOVE it! Did you do the header your self or purchase it? It's totally fab! Bravo bravo bravo!

  2. PS
The book I'm reading now is SO you! A girl who loves Pride and Prejudice and works at a pastry shop (Scones and Sensibility). Have you read it?

  3. Re-read! I re-read books all the time and love it. Some of my favorite re-reads are Pride and Prejudice, Ella Enchanted, and just about any really good fantasy or sci-fi. I agree, there's a lot of joy in re-reading books.

  4. Yes. I love re-reading my books. My friends don't understand, and I could never really explain it properly. I don't just re-read my faves, I re-read everything. If I get a book in ebook format, I buy it in paperback anyway. :D

  5. I've only re-read a few books. And they are books from my childhood:

The Giver (series) by Lois Lowry
The Lottery Rose by Irene Hunt
The Castle in the Attic by, I don't remember and I'm too tired to look it up but it was awesome

And I too love the new layout! Who made it? I don't see a link anywhere.

  6. I'm afraid I don't re-read much - my TBR pile is too big and too demanding to allow re-reading, but I want to though!

  7. I hadn't re-read any books for about a year or two, so over spring break I re-read Jane Eyre and am currently re-readingMatilda. It's such a comfort thing! I'm so glad I did.

  8. I find it comforting to re-read books every so often and I have a handful that I've read about 10 times. There's something nice about re-vising a setting, or characters. :)

  9. I really like to reread if I loved a book the first time. (And sometimes if I hated it.) Second read brings such an interesting new perspective. Just reread "The Blue Castle." Adorable.

  10. Oh I agree Sara Lyn, sometimes I don't like a book the first time around but then end up loving it if I read it again. A second reading always brings a bigger perspective.

I have a small list of books I'd like to re-read as I think they would be better the 2nd time.

  11. I LOVE the look of your blog! So cute! I actually don't know if I have ever re-read a book, aside from the few I have now shared with my daughter (or scriptures). I just love the suspense of not knowing what's going to happen for sure and figuring things out along the way. Occasionally I'll pick up a book to reread favorite parts of it, but that's about it. Of course, I don't really buy books much - I'm more of a library addict! :)

  12. I re-read continuously, I also transcribe every single phrase I like.
There are a handful of books I always have on my bookshelf. I read "Kiss and make up" by Sarra Manning and "Second Helpings" by Megan McCafferty at least five times.

  13. I'm stopping by from Juju's blog. I do re-read but I have to wait a little while or I get bored with the book right away. The information is still fresh from the previous read.

  14. I re-read very few books, mainly because I have so many new books to read and don't have the time to re-read older books. But this just means that the books I do re-read hold a special place in my heart that I make time to re-read them every so often.

  15. I re-read a lot. Almost every year I re-read Harry Potter, The book thief and The Seven Water books. There's nothing better than diving into the books you love <3 To connect with your favorite characters again.

And I don't know. It never feels like a waste to re-read a book. Yeah, there are so many great new books out there, but I just love it.
